General Membership Meeting Minutes – November 18, 2015
The national anthems of the Republic of the Philippines and United States of America were played.
Chaplain David Laibow offered the Opening Prayer.
The recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance - Members recited the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion.
Commander Jones convened the meeting at 10:03 A.M.
Roll Call of Officers: All officers were present except Second Vice Commander Michael Campbell (excused), Sergeant-at-Arms Steven Benoit (excused), and Historian James Brown (absent).
The following individuals were recognized: Department of the Philippines Commander Lawrence Wade and Past Post 123 Commanders William Brown and Dennis Drazkowski.
Post Everlasting Memorial Service was performed for Victor Gomez, Howard R. Lannon, and Vincent Smith. Six individuals present for Legionnaire Lannon to include wife Mary and daughters Patricia and Elizabeth.
Reading of the Minutes: A motion was made by Adj. Wade and seconded by Norman Macon to approve the October 2015 GMM minutes as written, subject to correction. No discussion. The motion was voted upon and approved.
Reading of Communications: Adjutant Wade highlighted the flyer addressing: APPLICANTS FOR ID CARD SERVICES AND DEERS ENROLLMENTS. A new location (VA in Manila vice U.S. Embassy). The flyer is posted on the door in the Post Canteen.
Introduction of Guests and Prospective New Members: A member of Returned Services League was a guest at the meeting. No prospective new members present.
Finance Report: FO Estelle read the Post Financial Report for October 2015 and made a motion that the report be approved subject to audit. William Brown seconded the motion. No discussion. The motion was voted upon and approved. The Post Canteen Financial Report for October 2015 was deferred until the December 9, 2015 General Membership Meeting.
Membership Report: Adj. Wade reported that Post 123 has 155 paid members for Legion Year 2016 which is 71.1% of Legion Year 2015’s total of 218. Adj. Wade reminded 2015 card holders to pay 2016 dues prior to December 1, 2015 to avoid the $5.00/Peso equivalent increase. The following membership applications were received for balloting: Douglas Bollinger, Gregory Deering, Bryan Hammer, Robert Hartzell, Edgar La Benne, Robert Strahley, and Gary Wiggins. Their eligibility has been verified and Adj. Wade made a motion that they be accepted into Post 123. The motion was seconded by Junior Washington. No discussion. The motion was voted upon and approved. Post 123 Support Group Membership stands at five (5).
Sick Call, Relief, and Employment: Chaplain Laibow reported that Post 123 member Howard R. “Dick” Lannon passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015. He lay-in-state at the Sta. Maria Mortuary. Thursday, October 22, 2015, a Combined Veterans Service Organization Memorial Service was held in above location. On Friday, October 23, 2015, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2485 performed the Graveside Service at Clark Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. Post 123 member Victor Gomez passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015. He was cremated and his Graveside Service was performed today (Wednesday, November 18, 2015) at 10:00 A.M. at Clark Veterans Cemetery by VFW Post 2485. Post 123 Paid-up-for-Life member Ronald Burrus is on dialysis; Post 123 member Herbert Gage is homebound; Post 123 member Stanley Tschopp is on dialysis. Chaplain Laibow will be conferring with Medical City Medical Center on the preparation of a booklet for inpatients at that facility.
Post Service Officer’s Report: PSO Brown briefed on the following: garnishment of VA pay, privacy issues with Service Officer appointments, and childrens benefits.
Post Canteen Report: Sundays at the Post Home are very good; American Legion Country Band rehearsals in the morning and Verne Grant’s “Musical Request Line” (be it live, videos, or audios). We have some of the best food in town. Thanksgiving Day Dinner will be served here at the post on Thursday, Nov 26th. Turkey or ham dinner – P 395 or combo of both for P 495.
a. Outside Pavilions: At our last General Membership Meeting on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, the roof repair of these two pavilions was discussed. William Brown was to get an estimate. The best estimate he got was P30, 000. He made a motion to have the two roofs repaired (repair the meeting pavilion roof and replace the pool area pavilion roof) for P30,000. Mike Estelle seconded the motion. No discussion. The motion was voted upon and approved. Work is to start on Mon, Nov 23rd and be completed by Dec 2nd.
Good of the Post/Announcements:
a. Post 123 Member John Flaherty presented a check for $2,000.00 to the Post (donation). Thank you John!
b. VVA Social: Thursday, November 19 at Thi-Hi Bar 2-4 PM.
c. VVA Orphanage Christmas Party: Sat., Dec. 5 beginning at noon. Venue: MRW 1 Stop Tavern.
d. Sundays at the Post: American Legion Country Band will start performing every Sunday beginning Dec. 6 at 2 PM until closing. No charge (tips are accepted). Just drop by and enjoy drinks and our weekly BBQ.
e. U.S. Embassy Outreach: Thurs., Dec. 10th from 8 AM until noon at Lewis Grand Hotel on Perimeter Road. ACS, SSA, VA.
g. Beagles Christmas Party: Sat., Dec. 12th from Noon until 7 PM. Meal tickets and raffle tickets are available from Ray Jones, Larry Wade, or any Beagle member.
h. 50/50 Raffle for P2, 100 was won by Norman Macon and P2, 100 to the Post.
Closing Ceremony: Commander Jones closed the Meeting at 10:53 AM.
